THROUGH THE AGES - LYRICS

Turtle Dove

Well I’m going down, I'm going down to the town
I'm gonna find me
someone to love
I've been away too long I sing a lonely song
I want to hear that turtle dove

Turtle dove oh turtle dove
sing your song for me
I need to live my life, I want to find a wife
To sit here on my knee

I’m gonna build me a house to hold my spouse
Beside the big oak tree
Gonna build a barn gonna say gosh darn
Gonna raise us a family

Turtle dove oh turtle dove
sing your song for me
I need to live my life, I want to find a wife
To sit here on my knee

There’ll be girls and boys to make some noise
Cows and sows and chicks
There’ll be dogs, hogs, frogs
and logs
We sure gonna get our kicks

Turtle dove oh turtle dove
sing your song for me
I need to live my life, I want to find a wife
To sit here on my knee

When the years turn gold and we’re getting old
We’ll set out here by the lake
We’ll strum some tunes by the light of the moon
Eat the icing off the cake

Turtle dove oh turtle dove
sing your song for me
I need to live my life, I want to find a wife
To sit here on my knee

Turtle dove oh turtle dove
sing your song for me
I need to live my life, I want to find a wife
To sit here on my knee

Marble Stoneyard

I'm going back to the marble stoneyard
To visit kinfolk that I revere
The graves are leaning on that dusty boulevard
The names on the old ones have disappeared.

Reach out your withered hands
Reach out from where you're sleeping
Tell me of the Promised Land
Are you joyful or are you weeping

Sit by the tombstones, drift through the ages
Gaze once more at eternity
I see so many ghostly faces
The unbroken circle’s sweet mystery

Reach out your withered hands
Reach out from where you are sleeping
Tell me of the Promised Land
Are you joyful or are you weeping

Have you seen my mother and father
Are they still bent and broken down
Or are they young and happy hearted
Are they wearing that heavenly crown

Reach out your withered hands
Reach out from where you are sleeping
Tell me of the Promised Land
Are you joyful or are you weeping

I look across the marble stoneyard
I see back 200 years
There are old folks and children in the boneyard
There are many stories of joy and tears

Reach out your withered hands
Reach out from where you are sleeping
Tell me of the Promised Land
Are you joyful or are you weeping

Tell me of the promised land
Are you joyful or are you weeping

Mother Of Mine

Mother, what’s your name today
Will you be the one that wants me to stay
Or will you send me away if I step out of line
Make me turn my back and leave one more time
Mother of mine

I lost my mother when I was a child
I can barely see her now, a trace of her smile
I’ve been in and out of so many places
Hoping for someone’s good graces
Mother of mine

Mother be the one that I’m looking for
You’ve got to be behind one of these doors
Please be the one that will hold on to me
I don’t mind sleeping on the floor

Mother, can you please open your heart
Is there any way we can make a start
I can’t take a chance that the answer is no
Better keep my bag packed and be ready to go
Mother of mine

Mother be the one that I’m looking for
You’ve got to be behind one of these doors
Please be the one that will hold on to me
I don’t mind sleeping on the floor

Mother, what’s your name today
Are you the one that wants me to stay
Thanks for bringing me out of the rain
The touch of your hand eases some of my pain
Mother of mine

Mother be the one that I’m looking for
You’ve got to be behind one of these doors
Please be the one that will hold on to me
I don’t mind sleeping on the floor
I don’t mind sleeping on the floor

PICTURES FROM THE PAST

So many pictures in all those boxes
They gotta go before I leave
So many smiles, tears & paradoxes
So little time to laugh or grieve

Pictures from the past
Still warm my heart today
Time flies by so fast
Dreams of yesterday

Some of these pictures I’ll keep forever
I’ll hold them right here next to my heart
Take these others for now or never
Cherish our memories or let them part

Pictures from the past
Still warm my heart today
Time flies by so fast
Dreams of yesterday

There’s Mom and Dad and many others
Wish they were here with me today
All my sisters and my brothers
We were so young look at us play

Pictures from the past
Still warm my heart today
Time flies by so fast
Dreams of yesterday
