D&D In The Studio.
Bio
Doc & The Diva (Chip Swett and Alicia Thompson) have been playing together for some time up in the backwoods of Maine during the summertime. There is a great acoustic music scene up there that began with a bunch of pickers gathering in the aisles of the old Monson General Store (on The Appalachian Trail). They are both unrepentant songwriters and their new EP (Through The Ages) is the beginning of their attempt to share some of the songs that they have written and love to sing together.
Alicia was a high school Math teacher until her recent retirement. Her beautiful voice has won her a following up and down the east coast. She is also a rock-solid rhythm guitar player. It’s all natural, too. Chip calls her an idiot savant. She takes exception to this label. She has written many songs over the years. She has earned the Diva description because of her compelling voice. Any implication of a temperamental Diva personality is completely erroneous and should be dismissed from your mind. Please.
Chip has been playing the guitar since age 9. You’d think he would have figured it out by now. He also plays resonator guitar (dobro), banjo, and pedal steel guitar. He hears words as music and delights in the wonderful and endless possibilities of putting them together in song. He says “matching music to lyrics is a symphony conducted between the right and left brains. Pure delight.” When not playing music, Chip spent his professional life as a physician. He was Professor of Radiology at Yale School of Medicine and worked at Yale-New Haven Hospital among others. Now retired, he works actively in global health spending time working in Africa with the NGO Rad-Aid International.
